Diesel-electric ships drive saves 25% fuel
Until now, diesel-electric ship propulsion systems have led a shadow existence in inland water transportation. They have only been used for small passenger ships, if at all. A use in cargo vessels was not worthwhile.
However, this could now change with the new High Torque Power Drive (HTP) from Torque Marine IPS GmbH & Co. KG in Germany. The efficient drive system reduces fuel consumption and ship emissions of considerably. The HTP drive is also economical concerning weight and the required space. In addition, further advantages such as less noise, more precise manoeuvring and high system stability mean that the HTP drive is considerably superior to other diesel-electric ship propulsion systems and also to conventional coupled combustion propulsion systems.
